A little bit more about us
Director & Lead Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner
Jamal Abawi
Jamal brings clinically informed and extensive experience in delivering supports to people with disability to the Better Days Team. He has worked across a number of diverse service environments and has experience with a variety of diagnosis and age ranges.
Having obtained Advanced Proficiency Specialist Behaviour Support Practitioner status in 2021 and with over four years of dedicated NDIS practice, Jamal provides exceptional care to his participants. Conducting functional behaviour assessments, behaviour intervention, and the development of comprehensive Specialist Positive Behaviour Support Plans in alignment with NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission requirements. His experience includes supporting participants with complex behavioural presentations, co-occurring disabilities, and authorised restrictive practices, demonstrating strong capability in risk assessment, incident analysis, safety planning, and regulatory compliance.
Prior to specialising in behaviour support, he gained more than seven years of experience in education settings, strengthening his understanding of developmental needs, cognitive profiles, adaptive functioning, and differentiated communication strategies for children and young people with disability. He has worked across aged care, school environments, child safety services, and community-based disability supports, consistently applying person-centred, trauma-informed, and least-restrictive practice principles.
Additionally he holds a Master of Guidance and Counselling (Distinction, 2019), which provides a strong clinical foundation in behavioural theory, assessment, case formulation, and therapeutic communication.
